Our Preparation Process
At The Jain Mart, we believe convenience should not mean compromising on thoughtful food preparation.
The grains, lentils and millets used in this premix are carefully washed and cleaned first and then naturally sundried. Once properly dried, they are processed and blended with the other ingredients to create a convenient ready-to-cook Handvo mix.
This traditional wash → sundry → process → blend approach makes the premix easy to use while preserving the wholesome character of the ingredients.
👩🍳 How to Prepare
1. Prepare the batter
Add approximately 270 ml water to the Multi Millet Handvo Mix and mix thoroughly to make a smooth, lump-free batter.
2. Rest the batter
Keep the prepared mixture aside for approximately 15 minutes.
3. Prepare the tempering
Heat approximately 60 ml oil in a suitable pan. Add your preferred tempering ingredients such as mustard seeds, sesame seeds, dried red chilli and curry leaves.
For Jain Tithi/Tapasya preparation, follow your individual permitted-food practices and omit any ingredients that are not suitable for your observance.
4. Add the Handvo batter
Pour the prepared Handvo mixture over the tempering and spread it evenly.
5. Cook covered
Cover the pan with a lid and cook on low to medium flame for approximately 20 minutes.
Cook patiently so that the Handvo develops a nicely cooked interior and golden-brown base.
6. Flip and cook
Once the bottom is sufficiently cooked, carefully flip the Handvo and cook for another 15 minutes without covering.
7. Check for doneness
Cooking time can vary depending on the thickness of the Handvo and the pan used. Continue cooking until the Handvo is properly cooked through and golden brown.
8. Serve
Cut into your preferred portions and serve hot with a Jain-friendly chutney or accompaniment.
